U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer noted on Tuesday that the U.S. is not relying on any trade partner for critical goods and emphasised that a global 10% tariff is a strong incentive to reduce the trade deficit.
The official also stated that talks on trade deals are progressing as quickly as possible and confirmed that discussions with other partners are taking place in parallel.
Greer said he would speak with India’s commerce minister on Tuesday before flying to South Korea and mentioned that ending non-tariff barriers with China will take time. He added that President Donald Trump would consider policy changes if progress is seen on fentanyl.
