Economists mostly see the Fed keeping interest rates unchanged at least until September

Reuters reported that its latest poll of 105 economists, conducted between June 5 and 10, revealed that 98% of them expect the Federal Reserve's policymakers to leave the key interest rates unchanged at 4.25%-4.50% at their June 17-18 gathering.

In addition, a majority of polled economists - 56% of 105 - predict that the U.S. central bank would resume policy easing only in the third quarter of 2025 - most likely in September. These expectations align with the views of money market participants and generally coincide with last month's outlook.

Meanwhile, 42% of polled economists forecast the Fed to start decreasing rates again in the fourth quarter or later.

Reuters also noted that poll participants were divided on where the Fed rates would be by the end of 2025, but 81% of economists suggested that they will stay in a 3.75%-4.00% range or higher.
