EU trade commissioner Maroš Šefčovič said on Wednesday that trade talks with the U.S. are continuing remotely every day, emphasising that the EU’s priority is a negotiated solution.
The official noted that good progress has been made on the text of an agreement in principle and expressed hope of reaching satisfactory results in the coming days.
Šefčovič added that while the EU remains committed to securing a satisfactory deal, a degree of rebalancing will remain part of the approach. He stressed that the EU’s regulatory framework is non-negotiable and that its diversification agenda remains a priority.
The EU trade chief also said the European Commission is working to protect the EU from trade diversion by other countries, underscoring that the bloc's unity remains absolutely crucial.
